Whine-o

Ok, so I don't have my assignments done for me to post and show you, but it's a bloody sculpture and three whole paintings! So get off my back.
Also, this photo has nothing to do with my assignments not being done. One of the glasses was Krissy's...and I'm pretty sure I ended up giving it back to her. I don't always love photo in which I look deranged, but I do like this one.

Dear whoever it is that has a voodoo doll of me.
Could you please come up with some location other than my chest and back to stick your pins? I mean, really. Why not go after my elbow or something because quite frankly, I'm sick of these chest/back pains and I can't think of another explaination for them other than voodoo pins. So whoever I hurt or pissed off, I'm sorry, but you're going to have to knock it off now. Thanks.

The other night I went to 80's night with some friends clad in our finest 80's attire. It was great fun because we had the dance floor mostly to ourselves, so when Beastie Boys came on, nobody got in our way. It was also bingo night at that crazy club and I won a zombie action figure. (I've always been very lucky in bingo) I first hid my zombie friend in my roommate's cupboard, and thus a tradition has been born to hide it everywhere on eachother. Microwave, freezer, different cupboards. I'm sure he'll probably make his way out of the kitchen eventually. I personally prefer him in the microwave (despite the risk of someone not seeing him and nueking him) because that way in case he DOES come alive at night, he can't get out.

Oh I have one more little story. Soooo you know that charcoal drawing in my last blog? Well, I was spraying it (to stop it from smudging) with the substance that I've used all semester, shortly before the critique of the assignment. Once I was done, I read the label on the can, for the first time since purchasing it, which was supposed to say, "Fixative" buuuuuuut it said "Adhesive". It even said, "EASY-TACK" in big, obvious lettering. I've been wondering why all my drawing were so gross and sticky. Heaven forbid I actually read a label. I bet that would fix a lot of little mishaps in my life, but I won't dwell on it.

Well, until next time, get friends at school to also buy fake glasses for art history....matching your own. I do.

Is a dead body a still life?

Alright, so here's my drawing assignment. I did most of it during my shift today so I feel very productive! It's due tomorrow, so even though there are little things I'd like to fix, I might just leave it as is.

Remember last week's little episode of me being late to open the school? Well last night I was so paranoid about doing that again, that I booby-trapped my alarm clock (put stuff infront of it so something would fall on my head when i went to turn it off) and all night I woke up in a panic, looked at the clock to make sure I didn't sleep in....and went back to sleep. Yet after all this, SOMEHOW I slept passed my alarm. I wasn't late, but the point is that I'm P.O.ed. (POed? P.Oed.?)....whatever. Pissed off. Well not really but seriously. Maybe i should get an electric shock alarm. HELLO!

Until next time, spy on your roommates as they dance alone in their room singing along with "kung fu fighting"...and then get attacked by them when they spot you. I do.

Bahhhhh

Ok so here is an interactive installation peice I call "sheep costumes". Ok ok, so maybe it has nothing to do with art. This was Maegan and me on Halloween. She agreed to wear a costume if I put it together and brought it to school. I get pretty into that kind of thing. She looks pretty thrilled. It's possible that she didn't think I'd actually get anything together. Sucka.

Until next time, put together costumes that are barely held together by pointy and painful staples, I do.

my blog is waaaay better...

...now that jer fixed the Links.

until next time, pretend to be someone you're not. i do.

some stuff

OOk so here's a few assignments from last semester the first three are made of magazine cuttings. The one above is of Einstein and is my study of "volume described by light"
This one is something like....depth by shadow....or something. Whatever. I call this one, "Hey Baby" ....hahahahaha.
This one is depth using colour....sooo those red circles are supposed to kind of stick out. And I just used my silly phone camera for this today but the word says "remember" with the "me" in red.

Aaaand here we have a bit of an abstract painting. The assignment was all about complimentary colours and the "grid structure". We had to get some places where the orange and the blue were the same value (light or darkness) as eachother because then it makes a strange effect on the eye, and it makes the painter very dizzy. Also we weren't allowed blending anything.....so this was a very graphic piece.
I'm not a big fan of doing abstract with little point to it, so i couldn't help but incorporate the look of buildings.

Until next time, run after buses until they pull over infront of a snow bank which you must climb, fall and slide down the other side of it on your portfolio. I do.

Dennis

This is a portrait I did of my cousin Dennis Bootsma. Though it may not be the best of mine, in skill, it's very close to my heart as Dennis has died tragically in a car accident this summer. I was trying to remember the bible verse I put on the side of the canvas, but can't seem to recall it. I gave it as a gift to his family after his funeral. I was a little concerned that his face being in shadow would be too sad, but I like to think of him as feeling warmth on his right cheek from the light.
I wish I had gotten to know him better. He was only sixteen when he fell asleep at the wheel doing some deliveries for his family's bakery. At the funeral, I loved hearing about his life from those who knew him better. I'm so glad I decided to paint him with his mohawk instead of trying to paint him as something completely different.
I'm also glad I decided to paint him in general, because sometimes I'm afraid of forgetting someone's face when they die, but this gave me the opportunity to really study it and hopefully retain it.
He was really into things like quads, dirk bikes....you know.....that kind of crazy thing.
It's silly, but the main memory I have of him is hugging him...even when it was pretty clear he didn't want one. Heh.
Anyway, here's to Dennis.

Whoops

I forgot one. This one I did for my cousin Arusha's wedding this summer, so it didn't make it into the portfolio.

The Art Start

Oh boy, look who just figured out how to type between images!!!......but, I've already typed everything at the bottom, so just go read that.

Well, wha'd'ya know? It's another security edition!

Yes, I'm here reporting from my post at the King's front desk.

I was supposed to have the school open and ready to go by 8:30am. So you can understand my confusion when I woke up and read the clock that said, "Uhh...yeah. It's 8:30am". I lay there in contemplation for a little while, and that's when the profanities burst forth. I don't even remember putting jeans on. All I know is that I had the school opened by 8:45am. Then when everything was in place, I went back to the appartment to go back into my ussual human form.

But it's ok, I'm ok now.

Anyway, since I'm turning this into my quasi-art blog, maybe it's appropriate to put the art I had done before I came to art school on here as well. I used most of these in my portfolio to get into the program. Some are from some years ago and some I did this past summer, so keep that in mind that each of these is a stepping stone for me (not in order though, sorry). Most of you have probably seen these, so I'm sorry for the stale work.
Until next time, practice your procrastination skills with extreme dedication, I do.

prison uniform? sailor outfit?

Ooook! So I'm going to start to put some art on this this ol' blog of mine. I don't know how to put the typing before the image, but I'm learning. Anyway, here we have my first assignment for drawing class. We had to do draw a striped clothe with charcoal. We had two days to do it, and mine ripped after the first day, soooo I started over and stayed up until 4am finishing it. Good start Jennie. That would be my twitch-induced face in the bottom left corner staring at my work with ...well whatever that emotion is.
When I'm working in the studio at school, I wear an apron, whether I'm at risk of getting dirty or not, because I'm convinced that it helps me get into "work mode". So I've decided to try to apply this to art history class as well by buying fake glasses (i just shattered the glass out of a pair) to wear every time I go to class or study for it. Also, I plan on getting a one piece mechanic suit for sculpture class. Life is much more fun when you dress up for it.

Anyway, I was a little hesitant to mention this on my blog because somethings feel to delicate or personal or hard to explain without feeling silly to post, buuuuut since when have I kept my personal life to myself? That being said, I'm sorry to those readers who have fallen in love with me due to my polka dot blog page and my bloggy wit, but I'm no longer a single. I am now a half of a couple. A couple of what? You ask? Well that's for me to find out and for you to hear about later. All you need to know now is that Jer is great and I'm happy.
Until next time, make some incredible advocat and trick your roommates into having too much of it. I do.
